What is bolt bound condition during shaft alignment?

Bolt-bound is when the movable machine is up against the hold down bolts preventing further adjustment in the direction needed to complete the horizontal alignment. It is used to describe a condition that occurs during the alignment process, where the driver or pump cannot be moved any further.

  • One is to re drill the base plate hole and or the foot hole to the require dimension to accommodate your calculated move.
  • Replace the existing bolts with smaller diameter bolts.
  • The best method to resolve this problem is to fill-weld the existing bolt hole, re-drill in the proper location, and re-tap. This problem can also be resolved by removing the problem equipment and increasing the diameter of the mounting holes in the feet.
