Understanding MTTF (Mean Time to Failure): Definition, Formula, and Examples

When it comes to reliability engineering and maintenance planning, one of the most important metrics is MTTF (Mean Time to Failure). This measure helps engineers, manufacturers, and maintenance teams predict how long a component or system will operate before it fails.

MTTF (Mean Time to Failure) is defined as the expected value of the statistical distribution of failures. Mathematically, it can be expressed as:
